The Digital Health Hub

The Digital Health Hub is creating successful digital health solutions for real-world applications. It represents an initiative to accelerate health innovations through SFU's partnership with Fraser Health, City of Surrey and many others within the emerging Surrey Innovation Boulevard. Innovation Boulevard, in its exciting development stages, encompasses a broad-based partnership of academic and health tech industry players in the region.

Our mission is to be an international applied research and innovation leader in digital health solutions. We are a proud part of the "Innovation Boulevard" project which runs from the Surrey Memorial Hospital to SFU Surrey and the goal is to be the power engine and driving force for Fraser Health's vision of "Better Health.     Dr. Diane Gromala - Advisor

    Dr. Diane Gromala holds the Canada Research Chair in Computational Technologies for Transforming Pain and is the founding director of the Chronic Pain Research Institute.

    Dr. Andrew Sixsmith - Advisor

    Dr. Andrew Sixsmith is Director of the Gerontology Research Centre at SFU and a Deputy Director of the SFU Interdisciplinary Research in the Mathematical and Computational Sciences Centre.

    Stephen Dooley - Advisor

    Stephen Dooley, who has worked in Surrey for more than two decades and has extensive community ties, is the Executive Director of SFU Surrey and former Director of Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

  • Martin Ester

    Martin Ester - Advisor

    Dr. Martin Ester currently serves as a Director of School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University. He is also a co-director of the Databases and Data Mining Laboratory. He holds a Ph.D in Computer Science from ETH Zurich, Switzerland.

    Ian Hand - Advisor

    Ian Hand is the founder and principal of Northwest Strategies and the associate director of the University/Industry Liaison Office. Hand has worked around the world as entrepreneur investor, director and advisor to technology businesses.

  • Phil Barker

    Philip Barker - Advisor

    Philip Barker is the Vice President of Informatics and Transformation Support at Fraser Health Authority. He leads the governance and strategic management in Fraser Health.

  • Donna Jones

    Donna Jones - Advisor

    Donna Jones is the Manager of Economic Development for the City of Surrey. She works with Mayor Dianne Watts and is an important part of the development of Surrey’s Innovation Boulevard.

  • Sarah Lubik

    Sarah Lubik - Advisor

    Dr. Sarah Lubik is the Director of Entrepreneurship for SFU, co-director of Technology Entrepreneurship@SFU and a lecturer at the Beedie School of Business, focusing on university commercialization and startup support.

  • Greg Christie

    Dr. Greg Christie - Researcher

    Dr. Greg Christie holds degrees in psychology, neuroscience and new media. He spearheads the development of software solutions at the Digital Health Hub that can improve the cognitive health of children and older adults.

    Dr. Mineko Wada - Researcher

    Dr. Mineko Wada is a postdoctoral researcher at the Simon Fraser University Gerontology Research Centre. Her research focuses on online dating in later life and older adults’ experiences in long-term care facilities.

  • Spencer Goring

    Spencer Goring - Programmer

    Spencer is a Unity Developer and Game Developer. Graduating from Vancouver Film School's Game Design program, he has gone on to work a variety of mobile games using the Unity Engine.

  • Mei Lan Fang

    Mei Lan Fang - Researcher

    Mei Lan Fang, MPH, PhD Candidate is an Academic Fellow in Communications and Community Engagement with AGE-WELL Networks of Centres of Excellence and a researcher with the Gerontology Research Centre at Simon Fraser University.

  • Juliet Neun-Hornick

    Juliet Neun-Hornick- Coordinator

    Juliet is the administrative coordinator, STAR Institute at SFU. She provides administrative assistance to Dr. Sixsmith and Dr. Moreno, and also assists in designing promotional materials for upcoming events and communications work.

  • Daniel Wong

    Daniel Wong- Game Designer

    Daniel is a passionate game designer that works with designing mechanics and user testing to iterate on design.
